Another episode of longsuffering older sibling having to deal with annoying younger siblings messing up all their shit. These writers must be completely traumatised by the experience of having younger siblings. But at least these ones aren't like Polly and actually express some remorse for destroying shit. Apparently making sure that your younger siblings don't steal your extremely dangerous magic book to do some sort of plastic surgery on themselves is your responsibility as an older sister. That makes sense . But it's NOT your responsibility to entertain them to keep them from idiotic behaviour. Imo. But I guess that just goes to show I'm a younger sibling.
The funny thing is that I would be Marcy in this scenario but somehow she's my least favourite. She's alright. But she's not getting treated right by the narrative
So first temple is brain. And wisdom (Marcy)
Second temple is heart. I.e. selflessness (Anne)
Disobedient, foolish, impulsive
See? ANNE gets a whole temple episode dedicated to JUST her positive and negative qualities
Selfishness
Pronounced sense of justice
Incredible athletic ability
Lying, thieving
Learning from mistakes
Sacrificing for friends, strangers AND enemies
Empathy AND responsibility
Intelligence AND wisdom
I wonder what Sasha's will be
Ahh. Impulsive Anne retained some of her power by not fully charging the stone.
Huh...Sasha gives jester toad an out... uncharacteristic....ah she goes back on her word
Sashas positive quality is sheer willpower.
Her vices are always prioritising what she wants and her plans over other people's wellbeing
Willpower AND consideration...
Lift to enter brah LOL. I guess Sasha just proved that she could do that on sheer power of will. Now I need an amv to that classic for amphibia
How are they gonna charge the damn stone without Sasha. Really sad Sasha isn't gonna get her trials...
It's funny....I got it wrong apparently? Sashas first attribute is strength? Nah no way. The temple is just built to goad somebody like her
SASHA!!!!! SHES SO COOL!!! She went to look for Marcy and Anne ofc when she heard they were hanging out without her. Lol. While Marcy doesn't ever give a fuck about that and Anne is upset about the breakup
They're lying and leaving out the rebellion
Ok so apparently they switched tacks from season 1 and Sasha is now the strong one
So strength and teamwork?
Man... What the fuck. Sasha was NOT the physically strong one in season 1. They messed up the themes...
SASHA WAS WEARING SUPER HEAVY ARMOUR ALL ALONG AHHAHAHAHAHA
Strength and resistance... Ok...
'ill get this friendship back under control' what does that MEAN sasha. She probably doesn't really know that herself
The way they handle this reconciliation is crazy lol. The conclusion is that Sasha needs to recognise that Anne's changed? I don't know if that follows from this episode dude. I mean...Sasha is concerned about being left out and being unimportant to Anne. Anne is concerned about her killing people she loves and her being controlling and bossy
Ok actually this battle of the bands episode is much more clear about the dynamic. Sasha always wanting it her way. Anne not wanting that anymore.
Too bad they never realised that King Andreas is evil.
Honestly like Sasha a lot and what she did wasn't particularly bad but also understand Anne's fury
'redesign the political system so this sort of uprising never happens again'? She only realises that now. I wonder whether Marcy is thinking of Democracy.
At least Sasha and Grime know he's evil now. Too bad they're breaking him out now
Hmmm Anne did Sasha's move from season 1. It has no significance
'we were so focused on each other we couldn't see what was right in front of us'
Actually, you should have listened to Sasha. That was the real lesson. Or 'on ourselves' is the right term
ANNE GOES BACK HOME WITH HER PLANTER FAMILY??? WHAT??????
And Marcy died. And Sasha is still in Amphibia. Probably gonna lead a resistance. Oh my god.
Anne was willing to let Sasha stay in Amphibia forever tbh. Damn.
THEY ACTUALLY 'KILLED' MARCY. INCREDIBLE
YESSSS MARCYS GONNA BE AN ANGSTY VAT EXPERIMENT

mie!! i’m so late to the party but i absolutely loved ‘NICE’, it made me feel so warm and fuzzy <33 it’s so unique to its own and the flow of it is beyond wonderful!
what is married life like for oc and eren in ‘NICE’? is it just like before/do you have any nice!husband!eren headcanons?
AHH I’m so happy you liked it and that you took the time to come and tell me!! Married life for them... doesn’t really differ from what their lives looked like before actually hehe. They were basically married without knowing it 🙄🙄 idiots to lovers or something like that; but here are a few head canons of the months immediately following NICE!
You officially got married in Paris on the fourth, not too long after Carla’s wedding. You guys flew in some officials, checked through all the technicalities, and signed the papers right on top of the Eiffel Tower (access granted by the city of Paris upon request of one Carla Jaeger, of course).
Aside from having the most picturesque location in the world to sign your marriage certificate, there wasn’t anything lavish in celebration after that. Carla’s wedding was just three days earlier, after all, and was still the talk of the local press. You did have a small party with your friends (Jean, Armin, Mikasa, Marco, Erwin, Levi, Hange came from the Alps for Carla’s wedding) in your overly large hotel room. Just some music, room service, and lots and lots of champagne.
Eren extended your winter break vacation by two weeks for an impromptu honeymoon to the Bahamas before you went home. Let’s just say you did not leave the safe haven of your hotel room very often, except to dip into the ocean a few nights (benefits of a private beach).
After getting married, the rings swapped places; the band with diamonds previously on your pointer finger was put on a chain (a new one since Eren threw the other one on the ground 💀), and you now wear the engagement ring on your ring finger.
Eren doesn’t like it when you take off the ring (the ring being the engagement ring). The first time you were going into the water, you were going to put it on the chain for safekeeping, but he protested very strongly. He would rather it rest safely in your suitcase than go around your neck again.
Your wedding bands are actually very similar to the band you already have: gold and diamond encrusted. Eren’s, however, has an emerald in the center, like the two emeralds that serve as the pistils of the sunflowers in your engagement ring (for reference, that ring looks something like this, but with a gold band). The bands were the first thing Eren bought when you guys got home.
Your friends in Dubai (Ymir, Reiner, Annie, Connie, Sasha) had no idea that you and Eren got married over winter break. Safe to say they were all… very surprised to hear the news. Connie was a little bit bitter because he missed it, and wolf whistles every time he sees your ring (even though he’s seen it before because you wore it on the necklace every day).
You got married in January, but have an official wedding in the process of being planned sometime around late summer/early fall. Carla insisted that you guys have a wedding despite already being married, and Eren agreed whole heartedly. They are both very into planning it, and yes, Eren is somewhat of a bridezilla, and his mom is enabling him 100% please.
The night you signed the wedding papers, Carla lent you an off-white satin couture gown from one of her past collections. She is designing and making your official wedding dress by hand, with the help of Mikasa.
The two of them are also making Eren’s suit, and all the outfits for your wedding party. Carla will murder you if you even so much as hint at just buying other suits/dresses. This is her baby’s wedding, and she runs one of the most renowned fashion houses of the modern century; she’ll be damned if you guys wear something off the rack.
You considered a destination wedding, but settled on having it in New York. You haven’t decided a location yet, and it’s the one thing Eren isn’t actually picky about (because you know he’s gonna go ham on the decor no matter where it is bye).
Jean doesn’t know it yet, but he’s your maid of honor. Good luck and best of wishes to Eren picking between Mikasa and Armin for best man.
Even before confessing and getting married, Eren never slept much in his own bedroom. You both have California king sized beds in your rooms, and more often than not, Eren would sleep with you in your bed. You didn’t always cuddle, but he just liked to be there (for your presence, and because he was grossly in love bye)… you ended up cuddling a lot of the time tho.
He wants to renovate your apartment now that you both “officially” live in the same bedroom, even though it’s not necessary. He just likes renovating things.
You guys go to dinner every weekend, and sometimes you even go dancing. Eren still can’t dance and he doesn’t actually care to learn; it just reminds him of being in Nice with you.
He kisses your ring finger every morning waking up and every night before going to bed; sometimes he even does it subconsciously in his sleep.
He holds your hand way more often. Not just because you guys are together now, but because he likes seeing the ring where it’s meant to be. He also notices that it helps to curb your anxiety, which is a good bonus.
Eren wants kids, but he hasn’t really brought it up yet. He knows you both are fairly young, and that you’re still technically in school, but that’s not really a deterrent for him.
The only reason he’s waiting to say something is because you guys have a lot going on with wedding planning and settling in to “married life”—there’s a lot of tedious paperwork to be done and documents to update. He’ll bring it up next year when all that is settled.
On the subject of school, you are still attending university, but have been eligible for graduation for a year now. You had enough credits to graduate last (the year before NICE) December, but there were a few more classes you wanted to take out of interest that hadn’t been running in past years, so you stayed for all four years. Eren picks you up from your lectures.
Eren graduated in December before you guys went on vacation. By normal standards, that’s a semester early. However, he was supposed to be in this Honors Arts and Sciences program, that should have taken him another two semesters. He decided it wasn’t worth it, and dropped the honors part, and with that, had enough credits to graduate, so he did.
A college degree is really more of an accessory for him anyway, and school was never his thing. He’s decently smart, sure, but he never enjoyed school because of the emphasis on exams; he’s more of a creative person, a dreamer if you will. The only reason he even went to Columbia was because you decided to go there.
He and you both have enough money to live more than comfortably if neither of you decided to get a job after graduation… way more than enough/ But Eren isn’t doing nothing; he’s actually sorta been working his way into the world of professional interior design, and he really loves it. You’re proud of him, and more than anything, happy that he decided to go for something he loves.
Armin and Jean also graduated a semester early. Armin’s been living with Mikasa since Connie got his own place off-campus in January. Jean is a little upset blondie is living with his girlfriend before he is, but it’s whatever 🙄if it’s gonna be anyone, at least it’s Armin.
Carla mentioned that Eren got married sometime during a NYFW interview (along with talking about her own recent marriage), and since then you both have interviewed for two magazines, one of which featured pictures from your smaller party in Paris. You’ve gotten requests from Vanity Fair and Vogue about your bigger wedding later in the year, but you guys haven’t invited any media officials as of yet.
You and Eren attend the MET Gala almost every year. You don’t walk the red carpet and nobody is scrambling to take your pictures; but you have passes because of Carla. Also, you could just buy your way in if you wanted you (and your friends have in the past). This year, Eren had to pay two security officers $10k in bribes because you two snuck away to fuck in… a part of the museum not sectioned off for the event. Whoopsies.
Even before Eren got him arrested, going out to brunch was kind of your and Armin’s thing. Eren insists he should be invited now that he’s your husband. He is not. (His bitterness grows when he learns that Jean has secured himself an invite somehow).
Eren sold the car he got arrested for drag racing in. He never told you why—and as far as transportation goes, it wasn’t a big deal because you guys have other cars—but, to him, it was a kind of symbol. He thinks it’s dumb if he thinks too long about it, but he just didn’t wanna have that there are a reminder of how he’d hurt you and his mom.
Jean still drives you to your therapy appointments, but now Eren picks you up. Eren also goes to therapy himself, and has been before you guys got married; his therapist says he’s undoubtedly happier in recent sessions… like a weight’s been lifted off his shoulder.
As far as drugs go, there’s, of course, weed on a happy occasion, or at a party; but he hasn’t touched coke since that one time (which was also the first time he’d ever done it). That’s not even him being a changed man, he just didn’t like it—he only argued with you about it because he was being stubborn. He’s more of a drinker than anything, and absolutely loves to get you drunk on a special occasion, too; he always has. He thinks you look cute, and he likes taking care of you.
You have lived in that apartment with Eren for years before marrying him, yet he insisted you needed to christen the place like it was brand new… at this point, the only places you haven’t fucked in are the elevator itself, the foyer, the storage closet, and the pool. The latter only because it’s been too cold in NYC… trust and believe pool sex is coming lmfao.
Eren bought the apartment and renovated and designed it, but he never did like being in it all alone, and that’s been magnified since you got married. If he’s there by himself, he’s usually in the living area, napping on the daybed. He waits for your faithfully every day, and is hardly in the bedroom if you’re not.
Eren has not stopped introducing you as his wife since January. Even to people in passing like cashiers and bartenders, everyone in the whole damn city probably knows you guys got hitched.

BIRTHDAY GIRL
Annie and I never established that we were friends until her eighth birthday.
In the blossoming spring warmth, I nestled myself in the corner of the bench in the playground’s garden. It was an unspoken fact that nobody really played in the garden; it was a quiet haven for a few of us to read or enjoy solitude, yet it had also become a spot where I waited for Annie every day, and almost every day, had she not been sent home or busy with other obligations, Annie joined me, sometimes speaking, sometimes not. I didn’t mind; I just loved to be in her company.
On this particular day, Annie stood before me, and despite her being the same height as me, her air always made her seem much bigger and powerful.
“My dad says this is for you.”
She handed me a white envelope into which I fervently tore, revealing a gaudy invitation card.
“It’s your birthday on Saturday?” I quizzed.
“No, my birthday is today. But my dad said it was too short notice to invite you to my house today, so you can come on Saturday.”
At this news of Annie’s birthday, I immediately leapt to my feet and braced her in a hug. “Happy birthday! What cake are you having? Are you going to hand out sweets to your class?”
Annie did not hug me back but did not resist. “I don’t like cake, and I don’t like anyone in my class.”
I gasped. “How can you not like cake? Also, who’s going to be at your party if you don’t like anyone in your class?”
“Cake is too heavy and sweet.” She responded monotonously. “Also, you’re the only one coming; it’s not a party, my dad just knows I have a friend now and wanted you to come. You don’t have to.”
Unlike Annie, I didn’t actively avoid the other children in my school. I was still invited to many class birthday parties, I spoke amiably to my peers and I could name a few schoolchildren whom I could consider a friend— yet Annie, the stoic, ash-blonde girl confessing she saw me as a friend elicit such joy within me, I can still remember the feeling to this day if I think about her enough.
“So if I’m your friend, I have to get you a present, right?” I had reminded her of the title that she gave me moments ago.
“No. I don’t want a present.”
“Yes you do, everyone wants presents!” I retorted. “What do you like best in the world?”
“Cats.”
I sat down, sulking. “I can’t get you a cat, Annie. What else do you like?”
Silence.
“Mummy and I can make you something.” I continued, desperate to find something that I could give to my friend. “She’s really good at baking. Do you like cookies?”
“No.”
“Cupcakes?” I refused to give up.
“No! Cupcakes are tiny cakes, you know I hate cakes.”
“Brownies?”
“No.”
“Doughnuts?”
This time, Annie turned away, not meeting the question with a monosyllabic “no”.
“Doughnuts! Annie, I’ll make you lots of doughnuts, okay?”
Annie still refused to look me in the eye. It never bothered me, but I had gathered that she was more inclined to refuse eye contact when she was upset or shy. Before I had the chance to attempt to pry into which flavour of doughnut she would have liked, the bell signalling the end of recess rang. I leapt to my feet and pressed a chaste kiss to Annie's cheek.
“See you later, you doughnut!”
She shoved me towards my line with no malice in the action. “Whatever you say, pumpkin girl.”
“Earth to (y/n)? You’ve been glazed over for the past five minutes. What’s so exciting about the window?”
I blink, snapping out of the saccharine memory of Annie’s birthday. Four pairs of eyes are fixed on me, and I animate myself, taking the doughnut from my plate and shrugging. “I was just thinking,” I respond.
“You sure? Not looking at any hot dudes?” the only other female at the table, Sasha, suggests. Her hazel eyes flicker suggestively over to the group of men kicking a ball about in the park over the road from our favourite local café, which has baked goods to die for (or so Sasha and Connie, the food fanatics of my friendship group claim. I won’t argue—the doughnuts are heavenly.)
“Yeah, c’mon, (y/n)! There are three dashing fellows right here, why do you need to stare at those losers?” Connie chimes in, gesturing to himself and my other two male friends, Jean and Marco.
“Yeah, you wish. My type isn’t idiots,” I playfully smack Connie’s head, the growing stubble brushing my fingertips as I find any way to bring the subjects away from men that I would apparently find attractive.
“On all seriousness, what is your type? We’ve never seen you have anyone about.” Jean interrogates. Great.
It took me a while to figure out that I’m likely not into men. I never quite knew why I got so uncomfortable when middle school brought an array of boy bands that prepubescent teenage girls loved to swoon over, and why I could never answer when somebody asked me who was the hottest, but at the age of sixteen, when I realised my heart was racing upon seeing two women kiss in a film my friends and I had watched, it hit me like a freight train that I was definitely attracted to women.
I chose not to indulge anyone in this knowledge; realistically, I know I don’t have too much to worry about. Sure, my parents aren’t screaming about supporting gay rights from the rooftops, but I know that they have no prejudice towards the community, and my four closest friends would accept me no matter what — hell, Marco told us he was gay when we were fifteen and sixteen years old over a game of Mario Kart and we embraced his queerness with open arms.
So what’s the big deal? I think to myself.
“Does it matter? I’m too busy to date. These university decisions are killing me!”
“Simple,” Jean interrupts, pointing the straw of his ridiculously large iced coffee in my direction. “You come to Marley with Marco and me. Good university, far enough away from your parents, and you get your favourite friends with you for the ride!”
Jean and Marco are one class above Sasha, Connie and I, and decided that Marley University, a small, public school that gained a decent reputation despite it being so new, was the place for them. It was hard to say goodbye once they left school, but the holiday breaks came frequently, and soon enough, they were back for Easter, helping their three younger friends decide on which school to go to.
“Tempting, but probably not. I can’t get over the English department in Sina,” I responded dreamily.
“Yeah, and the crazy entry requirements. You’d have to be a robot to get those grades! Just come to Marley with us, I’m sure the English stuff is fine there, too!” Sasha whined, poking at my hand. I take another bite of my nostalgic treat, shaking my head.
“Guys, I love you all, but I can’t make such an important decision based on my friends. You understand, right?”
“It’s fine, (y/n),” Marco interrupts, his familiar comforting smile gracing his freckled face. “We’ll come to visit you up there, right?”
“Nope. Four of us, one of you. She is coming to Marley.” Jean retorts.
“Jesus, fair enough. I’ll book the plane tickets now!” I tell him sardonically. He elbows me jovially in response and stands, coffee in hand. “Right, we can finish our drinks and snacks on the way outside. It's too nice to be spending it indoors.”
Ignoring the protests from Sasha and Connie, who forlornly protest that they haven't had the chance to order a baked good after their main courses, the majority of the group tail towards the double doors, leaving the duo no choice but to begrudgingly follow suit. The late March sunshine is glorious, beaming down on my face, much like the day twelve years ago I was daydreaming about. It suddenly hit me that today, March 22nd, Annie would be turning twenty years old. This newfound knowledge makes my stomach drop and I cannot control the grief coursing through my being.
It's ever so odd how I can remember every detail about my childhood friend; every memory we shared together, her favourite colour, (black, which I insisted was rather morbid for an eight-year-old, so I coaxed her into putting blue as a second favourite) how on Sunday mornings her father would always pick her up from my house after a sleepover at 10 am sharp to take her to karate, even though she had told me in confidence that she much preferred kickboxing. I couldn't tell you many facts about any other childhood friend who I lost to time; it's only Annie. Every detail of the girl who made my infancy etched into my heart, refusing to leave.
As I force myself back into the present moment, I am aware that maybe Annie was more than just my best friend.
But I was so young. How could I have truly differentiated between innocuous childhood affection and romantic yearning?
“Marco?” I punctuate the spring silence before I can even stop myself. “How did you realise your first crush?”
Marco raises his eyebrows. “Jeez, it was so long ago. I was eleven and I was having a sleepover with my friend. We were on his bed playing Minecraft on his laptop, but I wasn’t even paying attention; I was just admiring his face, how he was so engrossed in the game. My heart was racing because I realised I wanted to kiss him, but I didn’t even think it was biologically possible to like the same sex, so I brushed it off. Now I look back…” he laughs awkwardly, before looking me in the eye, his tone suddenly earnest. “Why, what’s up? Anything you want to talk to me about?”
I stop in the street, completely oblivious to the speed of modern day life around me. Suddenly all I care about is how my stomach leapt when I saw her pallid figure walk through the double doors, into the garden, how I found any excuse to hold her hand, how obsessed I was with the topography of her curved nose, icy eyes, lips stark against her pale skin.
“How do you know for sure you’re gay if you’ve only ever had a crush on one person in your life? Somebody who you haven’t spoken to in eight years?”

"Shit!" Eren yelled, starting to chase after the police car Zeke was now in the back of. "That's my brother! Let him go!"
He shouted multiple profanities as he ran. He almost hoped they'd reach the ears of the cops.
"Eren, wait!" Armin ran forward after him. His hands latched onto Eren's shirt to stop him from running any further.
He was pulled back by Armin and he collapsed on the concrete. The yells he emitted made his voice scratchy and hoarse. He sat on his knees, breathing hard. The cars disappeared from your line of sight as Armin helped guide Eren to the group.
A deep voice made you tear your gaze away from them. "I apologize on behalf of Levi. He usually keeps a cool head." Looking up, you saw the blond man from before looking at your stumbling friends worriedly.
"Oh, yeah. I apologize on behalf of Zeke. He's always in some sort of trouble. Was that your wedding ring he pawned?" you asked.
He sighed. "Yes, it was." He paused and pressed his lips into a thin line. "Levi was really upset when he came home without it. But you don't have to apologize for what Zeke did. It's in the past and we can always just get more rings. I'm Erwin, by the way." He moved his hand forward to grasp yours.
You returned his kind smile. "I'm Y/n, nice to meet you. You should probably go before my friend gets back over here." You gestured to Eren, who was slumped against the blond beside him. "He can get pretty temperamental too."
Erwin smiled again. "I'll take your advice on that one. Take care, Y/n."
"You too."
After a few minutes, he reached his car and drove away. You couldn't help but wonder if Erwin's husband had anything to do with Zeke and Nebraska. However, you figured pawning something wouldn't get you banned from a state.
You decided not to dwell on it at that moment. So many things happened throughout the night and you didn't need another add-on.
Eren sat against the bench, sliding down the back. Armin was still by his side.
Annie and Bertholdt exited the restaurant, Bertholdt holding the door for her. Reiner trailed behind them.
They made their way over and stood by the bench. Reiner spoke up, "Everything's on the house, according to Marcel. Porco said we should probably get out of here, though."
"We didn't even get to eat!" Sasha whined. Her dress creased against the pavement as she kicked her legs.
Connie nodded and frantically looked around as if some food would magically appear from the ground. He wasn't far off.
"Holy shit is that a food truck?" He pointed across the road, and sure enough, there was one running in the parking lot of a plaza.
"I didn't even know food trucks were out this late. I'm thanking my lucky stars they are, though," Marco grinned.
Sasha's eyes lit up at the sight and she bolted across the parking lot. You were sure you had never seen anyone run that fast in your life.
"Christ, Sasha. Wait for me at least." Connie jumped off the sidewalk and charged after her.
The rest of you followed the two at a slower, more reasonable, pace. Careful to watch for cars instead of just running into traffic like your idiot friends.
The employees of the truck were pleasantly surprised when they saw the sudden line of people gathering at their window.
Eager chatter about the food you all would order quickly arose. All your stress from earlier events seemed to dissipate when Mikasa urged you into a conversation.
When the two of you reached the front of the line, the guy running the truck recognized you. He referred to you as 'the hot guitarist from that one band.'
Mikasa was visibly disgusted when she trained her cold eyes on the man. Grabbing the food, she ushered you away and glared over her shoulder as you sat on the ground in front of her.
The whole group was sitting on the pavement since there were no benches nearby in the empty parking lot.
Stores lined the end of the lot that faced your back. Dim lights emitted from inside a few of them. Other than that, there was only light coming from the food truck plus some street lamps.
The air was light and the sky was dark. Stars shone amongst the barely visible clouds. Your gaze shifted up at them just as you finished eating. They stared back down on you and a closed-eyed smile broke out on your face.
Mikasa stopped laughing with Sasha when you caught her attention. You looked so contempt and peaceful, especially after the night you had. Your foot tapped lightly against the concrete. Your face was illuminated by the moonlight.
She was entranced by you and couldn't avert her eyes. Coming back home made her fall into habits from a long time ago. Habits she used to be ashamed of.
The sound of Armin dropping their paper plate as he stood made Mikasa finally snap her eyes away from you. She blushed and Sasha side-eyed her with a teasing smile.
Eren dropped his plate next to Armin's and pushed himself up. He gestured excitedly to a liquor store behind you and proudly declared that all drinks were on him.
Ymir cheered loudly at this. She stood as well and tried to get others to join in. Historia chipped in a small yell of triumph as Eren dragged Jean into the shop to stock up.
Armin reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. A wide smile stretched his face. "Do you guys like the idea of music right now?"
Reiner nodded enthusiastically and looked over the blond's shoulder at their playlist. He grinned and leaned over to hit shuffle.
Armin turned up the volume and set his phone down. An old song filled the atmosphere and he began to dance along.
Reiner joined in alongside Marco, Ymir, and Historia likewise. Sasha and Connie's dance moves were very uncoordinated compared to the others. Their limbs flailed in the air but at least they had the spirit.
Bertholdt was awkwardly overlooking the scene until Annie grabbed his arm and led him into the dancing circle. It was nice to see her letting loose, even if she was only making Bertholdt's obvious crush worse in the process.
Laughing to yourself, you got up to dance with your friends. You beckoned for Mikasa to come along and she didn't hesitate to follow.
After a few songs, Eren and Jean emerged from the liquor store with cases of beer. Ymir emitted another cheer and helped them unbox some of it, taking a bottle for herself and her girlfriend.
Mikasa stopped dancing to grab bottles for the both of you. After multiple attempts, you claimed to be too weak to open yours so she gladly took up the responsibility. You thanked her and drank it happily.
Eren stepped in to dance and stole Armin's attention from Reiner. A hurt look graced his features for a moment before shaking it off as quickly as it came. He opted for intruding on Bertholdt and Annie.
Jean took hold of Marco's arm and spun him around over and over while they laughed like idiots.
Ymir was loudly singing along while twirling around in various parking spots with Historia.
A few yards away from the others, you kept swaying to the music with Mikasa. Sasha and Connie were snickering to themselves and pointing but you pretended to not see them.
Mikasa snorted when she looked at your clumsy form. "You're not a very good dancer. I guess that's one thing that'll never change."
Your jaw dropped as you feigned offense. "That's rude. I happen to be a great dancer. Remember homecoming?"
She smiled and laughed. "Do I? You must've stepped on my feet at least fifty times."
"Damn, sorry about that. But if I'm so bad then you must be great. Teach me your ways, Mikasa," you jested. Even though you were joking, you still felt your face heat up at the idea of her showing you how she danced so well.
Her smile was still evident when she took hold of your hands and moved you along to the beat. "I'll take you up on that offer."
She never took her eyes off of you as her hands guided your body to move with the music. You flushed under her stare and prayed it didn't show in the moonlight.
Each time she sent you a reassuring smile you wondered if she was thinking like you. Not that it mattered much. All you knew was that when you met her eyes, there ceased to be any problems nagging your mind.
By the time Armin's songs replayed for the third time, you had your fair share of drinks. A lot of your friends had drunk a little heavier, though. The only ones who weren't extremely drunk or passed out were the designated drivers and, coincidentally, you and Mikasa.
At this point in the night, the food truck was long gone. Eren and Armin were making fools of themselves trying to dance together. Marco was doing his best dealing with Jean's clinginess but he was barely holding on by a thread. Ymir and Reiner were fast asleep on the ground on either side of Historia. Sasha was surprisingly sober, you guessed she had to drive a drunk Connie home.
A slower song started to play and Mikasa made the bold move to pull your arms around her shoulders and put her hands on your waist.
"Like them," she whispered and nodded to Bertholdt and Annie. You would've shrieked at the sight of them dancing so closely together if you weren't already so surprised by Mikasa's suddenness.
You swayed with her to the rhythm of the song as she led the dance. You hoped the clicking sound you heard behind you wasn't Sasha's camera.
Continuing the quiet dance, you knew the familiar song was coming to an end. Call it the alcohol talking, but you felt a sudden burst of confidence run through your veins.
You adjusted your arms around her neck to pull her closer and she did the same at your waist. Butterflies swarmed in your stomach as you eased into her embrace.
When you looked into her eyes you realized she was leaning closer to your face. She stopped to ask, "Is this okay?" Her voice was shaky as she whispered. Her warm breath tickled your nose from the proximity.
You nodded. Your hushed words came out even shakier than hers, "Just listen to the music."
You didn't fight the feeling when your lips collided with hers. A warmth spread throughout your chest and you felt like fireworks were exploding inside of you. Her kiss was soft and her scent was intoxicating. This is really happening.
When you finally parted to look up at her, you felt everything and then nothing at all. The world faded from your view and you were no longer staring into her eyes when it went dark.

💜The Promise of Love💜 Chapter 20
Tumblr media
Erwin x Reader x Levi: Part 20 of 20
*****WARNING*****SLIGHT NSFW
**3 Months Later**
Levi groans as Y/N continues to torment him. Arm thrown over his eyes, he lays back unable to resist bucking his hips up slightly as her hand slowly moves on his shaft. He feels her tongue move across the tip as she tightens her hand around him causing delicious agony.
“Y/N, please.....” His voice is hoarse and broken. His full focus is on the woman kneeling over him, needing her to end his suffering.
“Oh, but you so enjoy it when you’re doing it to me.” She had shown him no mercy. She had edged him all night. If she would just let him cum, he swore he would never deny her another orgasm again. But then again.....probably not. She always looked so delicious writhing under his touch.
“I need you.” His broken plea was her weakness. The hard and self assured Captain was gone, leaving just the man behind. Relenting, she began to kiss up his stomach as she straddled him. Rubbing his cock along the dripping folds of her pussy made him moan loudly. Slipping him inside, she slowly sank onto him until she sat on his groin, fully impaled by him.
His hands moved to her hips as she began to move. Fingertips digging into the soft flesh, she responded to his subtle demands and quickened her pace. Her figure was still a bit more rounded than it was before the baby, not that Levi minded in the slightest. He loved feeling the soft contrast of her body against his. Moving a hand up to gently rub one of her breasts, he reveled in the sounds that come from her as he toyed with the milk engorged mounds.
Taking control, he flipped her onto her back while staying imbedding inside her. Her arms slid around his back as he pulled her legs around his waist. Bracing himself on his arms, he watches her as he begins to thrust. Her face contorts in pleasure as he moves inside her, pushing her closer to release. Changing the angle, he feels her walls begin to tighten around him signaling her oncoming orgasm.
Pressing hot kisses to her neck, he pulls back just in time to watch her shatter. The feel of her body clamping down on him combined with her sexy voice calling out his name and the look of pure pleasure on her face, causes him to find his own release. Gasping out her name, he tucks his head into her shoulder and pushes deep into her, shooting his thick milky-white release into her tight heat.
They stayed locked together for long moments, Y/N lovingly stroking his back as he caught his breath. Reaching over he grabs the wet washcloth they had prudently kept next to the bed for clean up. Sliding off of her, he wipes them both down before tossing the cloth into the dirty linen basket. Gathering her in his arms, he rolls on his back and idly runs his fingers up and down her naked back.
Y/N loved moments like these best. Feeling his slow, steady heartbeat beneath his chest, she idly traced a small scar on his upper shoulder. She loved the feel of the smooth ivory skin under her fingers. Watching the muscles ripple as she explored, she marveled at the differences between the two men she had made love with.
Tall and broad, Erwin had dominated a room with the sheer size of him. Levi was closer in height to her, but no less powerful. Sleek and wiry, he commanded respect from the cold expression he wore to the predatory way he moved. The elder man had been big and bulky, but Levi was hard and compact. Y/N found that she liked the sheer strength he exuded, especially in bed.
Y/N snuggled deeper into Levi’s side. Tomorrow was the first mission past the newly reclaimed Wall Maria. They had high hopes of scouting the terrain that seemed Titan free. The goal was to see if they could reach the sea that Armin continuously talked about. She was excited to be back in the saddle and in her ODM gear again. Despite Levi and Hanji’s reservations, she had insisted on being a part of this expedition. A wet nurse had been found for Erwin or EJ, for Erwin Jr. as the squad liked to call the growing cherub.
She thought of the last time she had been like this, with the father of the child that lay sleeping in the next room. The night before her life changed forever.
She never believed in what ifs. She just thanked the Gods that she was lucky enough to love again. To be with someone who wasn’t jealous of the ghost in their past or the baby that wasn’t biologically his. Fate had an interesting way of dealing the cards. She slipped off to sleep wrapped protectively in Levi’s strong embrace.
~~~~~
Blue for as far as the eye could see. The sunlight reflected off the water, almost blinding in it’s intensity. Y/N could see the differing shades in the water, indicating the depth of the water beyond the shoreline. Waves pushed up onto the sand, splashing Mikasa as she tried to keep her boots dry.
Y/N grinned as she watched Sasha, Jean and Connie frolic in the water. When Jean put the salty water in his eyes, she looked back to see Levi roll his eyes as he warily watched the group. Beckoning him to come join her, she pouted when he shook his head and turned to watch Hanji.
Her toes were digging into the soft wet sand as the wind teased through her hair. The air itself was salty as it moved around her. She closed her eyes and felt the sun warm her body, relaxing her. A shuffle in the sand was heard behind her as she felt Levi’s presence behind her.
“Beautiful, isn’t it?” Her voice spoke of the peace she felt in that moment.
“It’s okay.” His terse response didn’t bother her, she knew what he really meant. His arms slid around her waist as he rested his chin on her shoulder, looking out at the water.
He had finally stripped his ODM gear off, assured that for a brief moment at least, all was calm.
“I think we could spread out a blanket on the sand and sleep, don’t you?” Her voice was excited, eager for the idea.
“We’ll burn.”
“Huh...guess your right.” The disappointment in her voice made him chuckle.
He was nervous. Nothing in his mannerism would indicate it, but Levi was about to sweat bullets. The time had finally come. He had made a promise to himself that if they reached the sea he would present Y/N with the little box burning a hole through his pocket. He knew that she loved him, but the idea of asking a woman, even her to marry him was a frightening endeavor. Pushing away any niggling doubts, he turned her around, and covered her mouth with his own, shocking her at the blatant display in front of their comrades.
He turned back towards the sea, looking out over the water as he awkwardly thrust a small box into her hand. He refused to meet her questioning gaze, and she looked down as she opened the velvet box. Inside, a delicate ring sat in the cushion. A thin band of gold with tiny diamonds set in a beautiful pattern. Her eyes widened in surprise as her eyes flew to his profile.
“Y/N, I love you. I have been happier with you than I have ever been in my entire shitty life and I don’t want to waste time. You and EJ are my family. Marry me?” Levi’s eyes flickered over to her hesitantly, as if afraid of her response. When he caught her stunned expression, he turned to face her.
His grey eyes bored into her, intense in his love for her. Tears gathered in hers as she realized what he was asking. Vaguely aware of the others beginning to gather around them, she only had eyes for the raven hair man before her. Their relationship flashed through her mind, the good and the bad. There was only one answer she could possibly give.
“YES! Levi, yes!”
He gave a relieved smile and pulled her close, kissing her deeply. The cheers of the Scouts surrounded them as they continued to meld their mouths together. Finally releasing each other, Levi took the box and slipped the ring on her hand and kissed it. The kids began to hug Y/N and pat Levi’s back awkwardly as congratulations were given to the couple.
After finally having enough of the squad, Levi pushed past them, pulling Y/N along with him. Walking along the shore, she wondered how he was going to feel about his boots getting wet. She looked down and laughed when she realized Levi was barefoot. She snorted a bit when he leveled an unhappy glower at her.
“This shit’s supposed to be romantic, not make you laugh like an idiot.” He grumbled. “Walk barefoot in the sand with her, she says. It’ll be romantic, she says. Fucking Hanji.”
Rolling her eyes, she pushes playfully against him, encouraged when he throws his arm around her, squeezing her tightly against his side.
“It is romantic, and I love it.” Y/N sighs, content in the moment with her now fiancé . “I am so very grateful you made that promise to Erwin, Levi.”
“Me too, Y/N. It was a promise of love”
They stood together as the waves rolled gently against the shoreline. The future was theirs, and they would face it united. That was their new promise of love to each other.
Rose Coloured Boy - [8/11]
Tumblr media
Summary: Sebastian Stan & Eleanor Egan spent the better part of six years being the European outcasts of Rockland Country Day School. Despite growing through their teens as best friends, college soon broke down their friendship until nothing remained. Ten years later, a turn of events in a city as large as New York City, finds them running in the same social circles once again with nowhere to run, and nowhere to hide. Pairing: Sebastian Stan x OFC Word Count: 5.2k Masterlist / Story Background / Playlist / AO3 A/N: I could just bang on about how it’s pushing 9 months since I last updated this because I’ve been struggling with actually fleshing out my plan, but I’m bored of doing that so please enjoy what I’ve managed to write. Part 7
APRIL 2014
It was just after noon when Eleanor awoke to a long and painful groan beside her, the air smelled thick with stale alcohol and she was sure a marching band were playing the show of a lifetime in her head. Her eyes stung painfully and she could barely pick her head up off the pillow to seek out the source of noise. The groaning continued, followed by a pitiful whimpering, she dragged an eyelid up to see Sasha curled into a ball on her bed, looking far worse than even she felt.
She gently patted her friends arm and dropped her arm back to the mattress with a heavy thud. Flashes of the night before started playing like a showreel across the backs of her eyelids, and if the snapshots went any faster, then she’d likely empty the contents of her stomach over her friend. She probably deserved it anyway, it was her fault they were in this state. Well, Sasha’s fault and Lisa’s too for daring to have a bachelorette party, but El was more than content blaming her younger friend instead. Drinking like a teenager was utterly ridiculous at almost thirty-two she mentally scolded herself.
At a painfully slow pace, Eleanor peeled back the duvet and swung her legs over the side of the bed, she pulled herself to her feet with a wobble and padded into the kitchen for eight glasses of water and any painkillers that could dispel this rotten feeling sooner rather than later. She flicked the switch on the kettle, and filled an empty glass with tap water, she splashed some on her face too to wake her a little more.
Don’t ever get married again after this, I’m never attending another bachelorette party, the next one will definitely finish me off she fired off to Lisa via text, and then proceed to down two glasses of water to try to, at least partially, remove the fuzzy feeling on her tongue.
By the time Sasha stumbled out of the bedroom, Eleanor had already drunk a mug of tea, four glasses of water, and scrubbed her teeth three times to remove the foul taste.
“You look even worse than I feel,” Eleanor snorted, lounging across her sofa with another tea, a blanket draped over her legs and just one curtain open to let in some light.
Her hair was stuck up in every which way, her shirt was off one shoulder and one eye looked all but glued shut, her eyebrows scrunched in as she tried to avoid the light, “I feel like I fought Lucifer last night, and he won ten times over.” She pulled a coffee cup off the draining board and poured herself a drink before trudging over to sit beside Eleanor, she pulled on the blanket to drape over herself too and tried not to pass out again with a steaming cup coffee in her hand.
“We’ve definitely made better life choices, I have to agree.”
“It was fun though, wasn’t it? It’s been so long since it was just us girls, no idiot men to cramp our style.”
“Yeah, it was a blast, I just can’t get over the fact that in two weeks, one of our group will be married,” El shook her head and smiled into her cup, “when did we get to this age that this is the norm? It’ll be you & Josh next.”
Sasha lifted her head off Eleanor’s shoulder and one eye popped open, “I wouldn’t count on it, besides who’s to say that someone won’t come in and sweep you off your feet and you’ll be married by the time you’re thirty-three?”
“First of all, you’re ridiculous Sash, secondly what’s the deal with Josh?”
“What do you mean?”
“Why won’t I be getting fitted for another bridesmaids dress anytime soon?”
“We’ve talked about it, I brought it up one day and asked how he felt about it, he seemed rather blasé, and to be honest, that’s how I feel. We don’t really want to get married. He knows I love him, and I know he loves me, why blow a tonne of money to reiterate that to everyone?” Sasha appeared so nonchalant about it, but then that was her nature, if there was no use stressing over something, then she simply wouldn’t.
Eleanor studied her friend and slowly smiled, laughter bubbling in her chest. Her friend looked over at her and frowned, “What? What’s so funny about that?”
“Nothing! Absolutely nothing. I was just thinking how adult of you that sounds, I know you’re not keen on admitting you’re pushing thirty, but that’s a big decision to make and I agree, you’re both in love and enjoy your arrangement as it is, so why change that? It makes sense.”
Eleanor checked the time on her phone and wagered that she still had a good two hours before she had to be facing the world again, lunch with Chace had seemed like a good idea pre-hangover, but now she desperately wanted to cancel and crawl into bed and mull over whatever the heck she was feeling, in peace. Instead she dropped him a text, asking to meet her at the bakery a few blocks over so they could grab something to eat and take it back to her apartment. Fresh air would be a good idea but she didn’t fancy the prospect of being out in public when all she wanted to chain drink tea and cocoon herself in blankets.
A minute later, her phone pinged and Chace agreed, I feel like I’m half dead inside, lets each our body weight in food and binge-watch shitty films
She let out a weak laugh, jolting Sasha who was half asleep, she weakly asked, “Hey El, have you decided who you’re taking as your date to the wedding?”
“Uh yeah, Chace and I decided we might as well go together seeing as we’ve not got anyone else to ask.”
“Mm, I’m glad you’ve got him, I mean I’m glad we all have, but he’s good for you.”
Eleanor didn’t quite know what that meant, but she too was grateful for having Chace in her life, he was sort of like Sebastian was back in the day, the guy she always called upon. If she’d have thought about it more, she’d have maybe been concerned by how dependent she’d become on him.
Sasha settled back against her friends shoulder and sighed, peace and quiet settling over them as they reflected on their conversation. She was barely audible when she spoke again, “Given the opportunity, you’d get married though wouldn’t you?”
Pondering for a moment, and no longer, Eleanor nodded, “I guess I would,” her fingers stroked through Sasha’s hair and emotions started tightening her chest with disappointment in her relationships and where she found herself at this time in her life, “Yeah, I definitely would.”
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
The day was beautifully idyllic in an enviable way. From the clear blue skies, to the panoramic views of the city and all of the love and happiness that worked its way in-between, Lisa & Harry’s wedding couldn’t be described as anything less than perfect. After having spent the evening before at 50 Bowery in the city, the large bridal party were beaming and gleaming and well rested, the bride-to-be fast asleep after a glass of champagne and a secured eye mask on her face to block out the light and everyone following suit shortly after, after all, the day to follow was going to be a long affair.
The following morning was anything but the chilled atmosphere it had been the night prior, Lisa was one panic attack from flying off the roof of the hotel, Sasha helped herself to the bride’s mother’s glass of champagne that she’d been too busy drink and Eleanor was trying to help anyone she could, get themselves ready - the odd zipper pulled up here, a shoe strap fastened there - if an earring had been misplaced, you can bet that she had found it before panic could set in. That was perhaps how she found herself the last one to have her hair and make up perfected.
Within fifteen minutes she was good to go with just her dusky duck egg blue bridesmaid dress to pull on and then came the onslaught of photographs, both professional and camera phone snaps - selfies, posed, candid - a plethora of images from every angle were being taken left, right and centre, both in the hotel and on the street below. The excitement was infectious, and the air was clear with less tension and stress as the women grabbed their bouquets and made their way through the hotel to the ceremonial room. Each person was paired with someone from the groom’s party and Eleanor was infinitely grateful that she was matched up with Chace, she could walk in there with her close friend and her date to the wedding, it was an all round win.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
There wasn’t a dry eye in the place by the time the ceremony finished, the pair were relatively traditional, so their own written vows laced with silliness and sappiness was somewhat unexpected, but still so utterly them. The pair were radiant and a fair few of the party felt somewhat envious amidst their elation for their friends, Eleanor especially. The bride and groom led the procession of family and friends to the roof for a series of photographs and afternoon glasses of fizz to toast the newlyweds. The city always looked extraordinary from above and the bustle seemed so far down that it didn’t affect whoever was viewing from up high. It was peaceful and calming no matter how many voices shouted for attention amongst the numerous attendees across the rooftop.
Eleanor took a seat beside Sasha and Josh and slotted herself into the conversation with their friends, gushing about the day and catching up on what they’d recently missed. Kara was mid story when Sebastian appeared at her side with a glass of water for her in one hand, and two glasses of wine in the other.
“Drink, Miss?” He reached one of the flutes over to her and placed the other two glasses on the glass topped table between the group so he could sit beside her.
“Thanks Seb,” she took a sip and set it down in front of her, “haven’t seen you all day, how are you doing, handsome?”
Sebastian blushed lightly and she snickered at the reaction, he always had been an easy target with the compliments, “better now I’ve seen you in that dress.” He smirked over the rim of his own glass and she softly smacked his arm with the back of her hand, “shut up.”
“Hey now, you do look gorgeous.”
“Yeah yeah, you scrub up well too.”
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Eleanor watched Chace talking to the photographer with a little smile on her blush pink painted lips and then he turned to point in her direction with his own grin, as he sauntered his way back over to her, she squinted her eyes a little in confusion but he just shook his head. His palms rested on her hips and nodded over to the photographer, “You look beautiful, I’m not missing an opportunity to have a good picture of us together.”
She laughed fondly and her eyes rolled, “You’re such a loser, Crawford.” Eleanor wasn’t sure what was happening with her younger friend, everything surrounding their friendship felt like it was shifting slightly, glances holding different weights, hands lingering on hands, lips pressed to cheeks for a moment or two longer. Now wasn’t the time to dwell on that though. The photographer was patient with them, snapping a few shots when he really ought to be focusing on the rest of the party, but Chace wanted this, and so did she, and maybe they ought to be a little selfish for a while.
She definitely wanted to continue being selfish when Sebastian had a date on his arm for the evening reception, one that stole his attention and made me smile in ways no one had seen him since Jennifer. Her name was Margarita Levieva, a fellow actress and she was undeniably beautiful. Eleanor heart clenched and her breath caught in her chest for a moment causing her heart rate to increase slightly. Chace noticed her reaction as they danced across the outside terrace, he was at a loss for how to comfort her, knowing seeing him with someone knew would definitely affect her, instead he pulled her close, playfully dipping her and twirling to turn her attention from the pair so she would continue enjoying the party, tomorrow she could dwell on her feelings.
Sebastian however hadn’t seen how she’d responded, just watched on as she laughed and swooped and moved with ease with another man, he didn’t want to admit just what that did to him or made him feel, not when he’d arrived with someone new that he was really enjoying getting to know in a romantic capacity. Maybe moving on with Margarita was just what he needed, someone who could give him the love and relationship he was sure Eleanor was becoming less likely to give him.
Two weeks later Sebastian didn’t hide his new relationship, nor did he outright tell his friends and that was the start of the next chapter his life.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
MAY
The crowd was bustling and borderline rowdy for the audience and set up at 54 Below the night of Eleanor’s birthday. Aaron had asked her a few months prior to join him on her birthday for one of his few performances and she couldn’t turn him down, he was still one of her closest friends and she’d walk on hot coals to see him smile. They’d had numerous practises for the song they had chosen to duet, a song that had become synonymous with him and one that pulled at her heartstrings no matter how many times she’d heard it, and felt it.
He looked so at home on that stage, like he truly was born to do it and she giggled at his silly stories and anecdotes, clearly picking up some tips from a good friend and mentor of both him and Eleanor, Norbert Leo Butz, a man that was raucously cheering him on from a table just to the side the stage. Eleanor wasn’t sure whether it was nerves or excitement that was making her leg bounce as she sat around a table between Chace & Damon, just a table over from Norbert.
“There’s a few familiar faces in the crowd this evening, some old friends of mine like Mr Norbert Leo Butz over there,” Aaron gestured over to his table with his arm extended, and bowed over at him with a clap and a laugh, he then looked over to the other table of friends and gestured to them too, “my onscreen cousin, Mr Chace Crawford,” Damon waved wildly over at Aaron causing him to giggle away from the microphone and nod, “of course, my dear friend Mr Damon Lovitz, and one of my best friends slash former musical love interest, a woman who I’m sure needs no introduction, Ms Eleanor Egan everybody!” His voice rose at the end of his introductions and he clapped eagerly to prompt the audience to also do so.
“If you don’t mind, I’d like to invite the birthday girl up onstage with me to sing this next song, it’s one we love dearly and there’s no one else I could imagine singing this with, so come on up El.” Her cheeks burned and she nibbled at her lip as she stood and brushed her hands down her ivory cropped trousers, praying she didn’t fall in her heels as she stepped up onto the stage beside her friend. Damon & Chace both looked stunned at her keeping this cameo a surprise from them but cheered obnoxiously for her and made far too much noise that made her want to kick them a little to quiet down. Not that she didn’t appreciate it wholeheartedly.
Aaron embraced her once she was stood in front of a second microphone that had promptly been set up by a stagehand and waved his arms at her to prompt another cheer from the crowd. “C’mon Tveit, are you gonna blow smoke up my ass all evening or are we actually gonna sing?” She smirked at him and threw her head back with laughter once she saw his eye roll and faux unimpressed facial expression.
“Fine, fine, that’s me told. Here goes nothing.”
The opening piano bars of the song started and everything else melted away, Eleanor was lost in the instruments and the lyrics and sharing the stage with her friend once again, everything else seemed to vanish and she swore she would have cried at the feeling of home the stage always invoked in her had she not had to be so present within the song.
Let me catch my breath.
This is really hard.
If I start to look like I'm sweating, well
it's 'cause I am.
The crowd snickered and Aaron grinned at the reaction it always brought out from the audience, never tired from singing this song when he had to chance.
Run away with me.
Let me be your ride out of town.
Let me be the place that you hide.
We can make our lives on the go.
Run away with me.
Texas in the summer is cool.
We'll be on the road like Jack Kerouac
Looking back,
Sam, you're ready, let's go
Anywhere.
Get the car packed and throw me the key.
Run away with me.
Sam, I know it's fast.
I'm in love with you.
Sam, it's crazy, but Sam, I'm crazier for you.
I have these plans.
Sam, I have these plans
Of a house that we build on a bay
When we run away.
The contrast of their voices together was beautiful and the song fit a duet far better than anticipated, they alternated lines and verses and came together to harmonise for the final verse, the power rang throughout the venue and the tears formed in Eleanor’s eyes. Aaron’s hand found hers and squeezed it, his head tilted towards the microphone and sang to her, building a wonderful connection for the audience.
Run away with me.
California dreams here we come
Romeo is calling for Juliet
Ready, set
Sam, you're ready.
Let's go
Anywhere.
Say the word and I'm already there!
The final notes played out and Eleanor laughed a little and wiped under her eyes to stop any tears, the crowd erupted and she just hugged Aaron tight before flashing a wave to the guests watching and stepped off the stage to sit back with her friends. They both crushed her in a hug whilst the show continued on and without thinking she reached over to wipe a stray tear from Chace’s eye and dropped her hand to his to hold and comfort.
“You’re a superstar,” he whispered into her ear and pressed a kiss just beside it.
She really loved her friends more than anything.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
AUGUST
“Oh c’mon Seb, you know you want to really,” Eleanor childishly whined to Sebastian with her hand tugging on his, a fruitless attempt at dragging her best friend up to the karaoke machine Damon suspiciously had lying around his apartment that was now situated in Sebastian’s open plan living room.
He shrugged off her casually, turning down her request and pulling himself up from the sofa, “No, El, not now. I just want a drink, I’m sure Chace’ll sing with you.”
“You’re getting boring in your old age,” she huffed, eyes rolled and a pathetic pout pulled on her lips, reminiscent of teenage Eleanor that often pulled such faces to get her own way with Sebastian. He hated not being immune to it, still after all these years, and he nearly broke, she could see that evidently. Instead he pulled the corner of his bottom lip between his teeth and pondered for a dramatic moment, “Uhm...… yeah no, I’m standing firm with my answer.” With that, he turned on his heel and snickered at her aggravated expression.
She muttered under her breath, “Jackass.”
Seeing Margarita there was expected, but that still didn’t ease the ache in her chest or quell any of the tightness when she saw her greeting Sebastian with a kiss upon her arrival. They looked so at ease with each other, still firmly planted in the honeymoon phase where they were lost in one another, completely oblivious to everything around them. Completely oblivious to Eleanor watching them as if her world had exploded into flames, piece by piece. She was an actress though, so she hoped she’d managed a strong enough performance to not have alerted anyone within a 5 feet radius that things were gradually falling apart for her. Eleanor knew how to fake a smile and feign happiness, she’d spent the better half of a decade doing that in the not too distant past.
This is ridiculous, Eleanor wagered with herself, you’re not a teenager anymore, enough with the teenage crushes and puppy love.
But watching someone you have relatively deep feelings for, light up around someone else, look at that other person like they once looked at you, full of happiness, that was a tough scene to witness. It was heart wrenching, soul destroying and twenty different shades of I fucking hate this.
Eleanor placed fair share of the blame and hatred toward her self for a few moments, you had your chance, he told you he wanted you months ago, but you were too full of pride to tell him how you felt and turned him away. You only have yourself to blame.
Sometimes she really fucking hated her rational side, for ruling with her head and not her heart.
She felt a weight pressing down on her shoulder and her head snapped round to find Chace’s head resting there with a sorrowful look, “Everything okay?”
“Peachy.”
“If this is too much, we can leave, it’s okay.”
“I don’t know what you mean.”
“Your face says it all. Seb and Margarita? No fun for you, I’m sure.”
“Let’s not do this again, yeah? Don’t really feel like talking about it.”
His head raised and he nodded, arm looped around her shoulder squeezing her closer to him, “I get it, no more talking about them, promise.”
“How about you dance with me?” She asked with a soft half smile and eyes glinting. She reached for his hand to pull it in hers and led him over to a wider spot where a few other were dancing and mingling. Chace couldn’t deny her anything. And she’d be damned if she could deny him too. The bright light in the storm, her safe haven when things became too much. She really didn’t deserve him.
They were pleasantly buzzed as the evening progressed, their time torn between dancing close, chatting between themselves about anything and everything, and cracking jokes with their closest friends. Everything felt light and free and happy, everything aside from the one thing that Eleanor was constantly diverting her gaze to, the thing that was like a glaring beacon floating around the room, as if a spotlight were placed on the two people so seemingly aware of the inner turmoil she was facing.
Eleanor supposed it was like rubbernecking in a car accident on the freeway, (there was nothing catastrophic or treacherous about Sebastian and Margarita dating but that’s by the by), she just couldn’t stop twisting the knife a little deeper by watching them. However, when her eye line did divert, she found herself watching her friends interact, and feeling such a soft fondness to them all, and when her eyes swept over Chace every so often, there was a twinkling in her gut and her mouth involuntarily quirked upwards, just his presence and the weight of his hand resting on hers put her at ease. He’d almost always catch her eye when she was taking a moment or two to really look at him and he’d smile at her in a way that felt bizarrely intimate, or she’d feel the pressure of his hand as he gave hers a squeeze.
It was during another round of dancing, swaying through a slow song that left Eleanor with the urge to rest her head on his shoulder, mouth smiling into his neck (both of which she didn’t hesitate to give into to) when she held him close and told him how happy she was to be here with him, “Sure I’m hurting over Seb, but that’s my problem. At least I’m here with the best man in New York City, who else gets to say that earnestly?”
The lines had blurred somewhere between hazy smiles, minimal confessions of affection, caring friendships of trust and love and gestures of intimacy that settled down deep in their bones, it was the in-between portions that led to soft lips pressing to soft lips, a familiarity of comfort and warmth and you’re what I need, not just now, but always. It rattled Chace momentarily, a questioning gaze contorting his face, worrisome, but Eleanor squashed the worries instantly, shaking her head and smoothing her fingers over his cheek to pull him in close again and kissed him like her life had depended on it. She didn’t need the comfort of just anybody, she needed the comfort of the one person who, deep down, knew her better than anyone, better than Damon or Sasha or Sebastian, the person who had clearly loved her through everything and been her support system when everything felt like it was breaking down around her.
“Can we go home? I don’t want to be here anymore, I just want to be with you.”
The sunlight that poured through the unshielded window was what woke Eleanor the following morning, well that and the movement of the mattress beside her. An ample amount of time had passed since she’d last shared a bed with somebody and it took her a minute to come to her senses and realise where she was. A bleary eyed glance beside her found Chace sleeping peacefully, his arm slung over her torso and his cheek buried into the pillow, one leg draped over hers and the sheets were tangled. The saving grace was Eleanor peeking down to see that she was wearing one of his shirts, underwear still intact.
It was during that quiet golden hour of morning, meek headache pains lingering in the back of her head, enough to remind her that she drank a few glasses last night, but not enough to have her crippling in pain that morning, that allowed her a moment or two of reflection. Last night had been a mixture of emotions, she was hurt over Sebastian’s new relationship (although knowingly having no right to feel that way), but also happy for him, she loved seeing him genuinely happy and at ease, that was worth the pain she felt. And then she looked at Chace and elements of her feelings and emotions and her life began clicking and slotting into place. She wasn’t sure why it had taken her so long to see him in another light, sure he’d always been gorgeous - she’d mentally taken note of that the moment they met - and sure she trusted him with her life, and sure she loved him to a fault, but she’d never seen him in this I like waking up with you in the morning and you’re taking my breath away every time I look at you way, at least not until the past couple of months. Probably around Lisa’s wedding. She surmised that’s why she wasn’t as monumentally distraught over Sebastian in the light of day.
Eleanor watched her friend as he slept, mapping out his face and thinking of the possibilities with him, hoping that when he awoke he wouldn’t be ashamed that they’d let a few glasses of fizz cloud their judgement and behave in a way they’d never dared to before. But the slow and lazy smile that spread to his sparkling eyes the moment he set his blinking eyes on her, she didn’t think there was all that much to worry about.
“Good morning, beautiful.”
The morning soon spread to afternoon, bodies sill intertwined in bedsheets, soft kisses and skin to skin, cups of coffee and discussions of where to proceed from here. The progression of their friendship to this new relationship, only formed a mere twelve hours before, seemed nothing other than natural.
Chace voiced his concerns about how she felt to which she assured him this was what she wanted, his eyes pleaded her to not make him a rebound relationship, and she kissed him in reassurance. It seemed so sudden and out of the blue for her, but for Chace, well he’d been half in love with her since the moment Damon introduced her to him, and he’d be lying if he said he didn’t want to give into this selfish notion of playing out this fantasy for as long as she’d have him.
Early November, amidst working and auditioning and trying to remember how to breath around busy lives, Chace and Eleanor had found an evening to hang out with their friends, announcing their new relationship and not leaving each others sides for the majority of dinner. Apparently Eleanor was the only one out of the loop, their group all chiming in with a chorus of finally’s and since when?, she wasn’t too keen on announcing the time surrounding their beginnings, the catalyst obvious to their friends so they told them sometime last August, just to appease them. She slyly wanted to watch Sebastian’s reaction, see what he really thought, but after a faltering second or two, he cleared his throat and smiled, his glass raised to toast his friends, he leaned over to whisper, “I’m really happy for you.”
Now felt like to the time to make it public, do it on their own terms and not someone else’s, so she pulled out her phone and located a shot from Lisa’s wedding that Chace had insisted on being taken and posted it to Instagram, captioned, ‘Sorry ladies. For those of you who were hoping to find Nate Archibald under your tree, looks like he’s already picked out his mistletoe mate’
As soon as she hit send, and her feed refreshed, the top post showed Chace had followed her lead with a picture of them looking more intimate, ‘Spotted: Nate Archibald looking a little too cosy with a certain brunette best friend. Is there something you’re not telling everyone Archibald?’
She tapped out a quick comment and hit send, her phone then placed on the table so she could curl up beside Chace again.
“I love you too,” he whispered, lips pressed to her head.
The comments flooded in, a mixture of congratulations, a few gossiping ones about how they thought she would be with Sebastian, even having the audacity to tag him their nonsense, but his response to the announcement was as she hoped, ‘It’s about damn time, you’re both lucky bastards’
She just smiled and rested her head on her partner’s shoulder. Maybe this wouldn’t be so hard.
[incomplete fic] ‘til thou wert weary of idolatry
[i’ll never finish this so i’m throwing it at you. have fun. read here on ao3 if you prefer.]
The water was cold.
It was a sign of just how far Zolf had fell that it registered as an annoyance at all. A sailor and a pirate and now an adventurer, he had faced the worst of what the sea had to offer him and survived. He was a cleric of Poseidon, for the love of Triton's barnacle'd nips, and he'd been through the many trials set before him. Two weeks ago he'd nearly drowned crossing the channel, and cold had been the last thing on his mind.
Then again, he'd also had a leg two weeks ago. It had been just the one, but that had counted for more than he'd given it credit for.
Now he was slowly starting to chill in tepid water in the most prestigious hotel in all of Paris, legless, aimless, and without a idea of how his life had gotten to this point. There had never been an agreement to all of this nonsense. Zolf had planned on an auspicious start to the London Rangers (they were still working on the name) as mercenary agents of the Meritocrats, yes, but he had rather thought it would be more of a whirlwind trip around the world, ferreting out clues and fighting grand wizards. Ancient catacombs were supposed to house undead creatures and similarly ancient secrets, not amoral machines carefully managing the whole world.
Saving the world hadn't exactly been in the contract, but they had done it anyway, because Zolf had been an idiot and his friends-- Hamid and Sasha, anyway --were so, so good.
The ache in his bones was a punishment for his sins, Zolf had decided, but it didn't make getting out of the tub any easier.
He'd tried to, five minutes ago, but the flesh around his ports was too sensitive to get a lot of leverage against the bottom of the tub, and the sorrow had melded with the cold to make his bones rattle as he tried to lift himself out. So he'd lowered himself back into the water and told himself to bide his time until he got up the strength to try again.
Twenty staff members below him at his beck and call, two friends and an employee just a room away, and Zolf couldn't get out of the fucking tub. He wasn't calling for help. He wasn't.
Help called for him.
"Zolf?"
The soft, nervous way Hamid said his name had always sent a shiver of regret down Zolf's spine, but now in the supposed silence of the bath, it jolted Zolf guiltily out of his own sorrows and into reality. He turned quickly towards the door, water sloshing around his waist. The door was ajar, preserving most of his dignity, but one brown eye did peek through the crack.
"Hamid," he said, voice cracking in embarrassment. "What are you--"
"Sorry. Sorry!" The crack shrunk as if reacting to Hamid's shame. "I didn't think-- I mean, you were in there a really long time, Zolf, and I honestly thought maybe you were just doing a Poseidon thing and still had clothes on."
"Yes, well... Obviously, I don't."
"Em, right."
Even the quiet sounded heavy on the tile as they sat there for a moment, just Zolf and the big brown eye. Uncomfortable silences weren't something the Rangers were exactly prone to. Uncomfortable ramblings, yes, especially from Hamid and Sasha, but silence wasn't exactly their specialty. Apart from their babblers, they also had to deal with one very shouty priest and a pretentious knight, so any awkwardness on their part was as loud as their comfortability was. Which was to say: Extremely.
"Is there something you wanted, Hamid?" And maybe they had all spent too much time together, because Zolf could hear his voice getting higher and higher with stress and embarrassment, something he was sure he hadn't done before meeting Hamid al-Tahan, the King of Squeaky Anxiety.
"Right, sorry, I just-- I wanted to see if you were alright. Do you need anything?"
Zolf tried not to let the question frustrate him. He knew Hamid meant well; There wasn't a malicious bone in the halfling's body. But while Sasha and Bertie had merely ignored Zolf's new handicap completely, Hamid had been treating Zolf with kid gloves, those wide eyes following him around the hotel room like a worried mother's. The reassurances and frantic questions had been nonstop, and Zolf knew it came from a good place. He knew it did, no matter how many disappointed looks Sasha gave him, alright? Hamid was a good man, and he wanted to take care of his team. Intellectually, Zolf knew there was nothing wrong with that.
The problem was that there was nothing intellectual about pride. Zolf was a cleric of Poseidon, an ex-naval officer and pirate, and the leader of one of the most important mercenary bands in the world. He was, technically, still Hamid's (and Sasha's, and Bertie's) boss. He'd lived through trials both spiritual and literal, survived swarms of botanical nightmares, and had handled losing the first leg just fine. Hades below, he had done most of that without the leg. There was an intense shame in the idea that now he needed Hamid's constant attention now that he'd lost the second. What was he supposed to say, 'yes, Hamid, I've just discovered I can't get out of the bath without assistance, could you please come help me and also deal with the awkward humiliation of seeing my wrecked naked form?'
By Zeus and all his whores, Zolf would rather ask Bertie for help than see pity in Hamid's eyes again.
"Please tell me you haven't drowned yourself in there. I honestly don't know what I'd tell the staff."
Zolf's head dropped back as a dry, shaky laugh escaped him. Hamid unfiltered was more and more of a treat every day. "Gods. Don't ever change, Hamid."
"Don't make fun of me," Hamid said, and Zolf could hear the pout in the tenor of Hamid' s voice. Before Zolf could clear his affront, though, Hamid continued: "I'm only worried about you, Zolf."
"Yes. Yes, I know, but I don't need to be worried over," Zolf groused. "I was doing just fine before. And don't--" Zolf closed his eyes, something that tasted like weakness overpowering his words. "Don't say you do need to, actually, because I will find those prosthetics and beat you with them."
Hamid's voice burned back, caustic. "Stop being ridiculous, Zolf. I'm worried about you because I care about you. Sasha is worried because she cares about you! Bertie--" A pause. "Well, Bertie cares about himself, mostly. But the point is, the only one worried about your bloody leg is you!"
Suddenly, Zolf was colder than the water around him. "Oh, so that's how you 'care' about someone, is it?"
"Oh, you know that's not what I--" But Hamid cut himself off, and when his voice returned, all the fire was gone. "I'm coming in, this is ridiculous."
"What? No, Hamid, don't--"
Hamid was a rumpled mess the likes Zolf had never truly thought Hamid had the capability to be. He'd seen the halfling covered in several "mystery" fluids, half-drowned, and, basically, utterly wrecked, but Hamid had never looked quite as strung out as he did now. There was a sickly ashen cast to his skin, like someone had covered his deep complexion in thin powder. His eyeliner had smeared itself across his face and sleeves-- It was the clothes that disturbed Zolf the most; It looked like Hamid hadn't changed in days.
That thought was so absurd that guilt started to settle in Zolf's chest.
Which was not on, honestly. Zolf didn't owe Hamid anything, and if he came in looking for an apology, Zolf was going to fry his fucking--
"I'm sorry," Hamid said softly.
Oh.
"Hamid…"
"No, really, Zolf. It came out wrong, and I shouldn't have even gone there. I know that." Hamid's huge brown eyes stared down at him, wet with tears. Zolf squirmed. " I'm really sorry."
Zolf's indignation began to crumble. "No, you were right."
"Don't. Don't." Anger flashed in Hamid's eyes, but somehow he only looked wounded, as if Zolf's reassurance had torn him apart somehow. "You're allowed to be upset, Zolf. I won't ask you not to be upset with me, or Poseidon, or the world. You're allowed to be absolutely furious. It was awful, what happened to you and Sasha, truly awful. And the last thing I ever want to do is make you think you're overreacting, or that you can't… talk to me."
Zolf's throat clicked as he swallowed, mouth suddenly dry. "Thank you?"
"I was just trying to let you know that I… I mean, Sasha and I, really-- We care about you."
Zolf offered a crooked smile, trying not to collapse immediately into tears like some kind of… Hamid.
"Even if I'm a legless lump?"
Even though there were still tears in his eyes, Hamid's smile was the most genuine Zolf had seen in days. Weeks, maybe. "You'd still be the legless lump that saved us. You took us in, even though Sasha had a bounty on her head, even though I was a useless public school magician. And then, Zolf, you gave us a purpose. Made us-- Made me something worthwhile."
Tears and laughter were starting to mix at the back of Zolf's throat; If he laughed, he would start blubbering like a baby. He was stuck. Couldn't make a joke, couldn't say anything to break the tension.
They just stared at each other, nervous, for a moment: Zolf, trying desperately to send all his gratitude through telepathy, and Hamid, pretending not to expect any of it.
